Japan’s allies ‘quick to offer their support’ after earthquake

Asia Correspondent Staś Butler says Japan’s allies have been “quick to offer their support”.

Mr Butler said US President Joe Biden talked about the “deep bond of friendship” that binds the United States and Japan.

“As has the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

“Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen was also very quick to Tweet out her deepest sympathies to the Japanese people.

“Taiwan has put a team of 160 rescue personnel on standby pending approval.”
