An Australian woman who was meant to be a bridesmaid has ditched her best friend’s wedding for a Taylor Swift concert.

The woman phoned into 101.9 The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick after the radio hosts put a call out to listeners asking, “What has Taylor Swift’s tour ruined for you?”

The listener, known as Olivia, said she had decided to pull out of her bestie’s bridal party so she could enjoy a night out at the Taylor Swift concert in Melbourne.

Olivia then called the bride-to-be Jessie, live on air, to tell her she wouldn’t be attending the wedding.

The bridesmaid starts the call saying: “Obviously, like, the whole Taylor thing… We’ve been talking about it, and you’ve been saying how annoying it is that people are backing out (of the wedding).

“But obviously, I haven’t told you that I got tickets for the Saturday … and this was done before Christmas,” she explained.

At first, Jessie thought the call was a trick.

“Is this a prank? Are you joking? Liv, are you joking? It’s three weeks until my wedding and you’re telling me now?” the bride-to-be said.

“So you want to miss my wedding to go to a Taylor Swift concert?

“You know how much this has been annoying that people have been dropping out to go to her concert.”

Olivia was clearly distressed at her friend’s reaction and responded saying: “I know I sound like such a bad friend but you know how much I love Taylor.”

Olivia then started to cry and said: “She’s so angry at me. I feel awful. I’ve been meaning to tell you, Jessie, but I’ve just been so anxious about it.

“I know how much this wedding means to you, and I’ve been there every step of the way.

“And when we were trying on bridesmaid dresses, I was going to tell you, but you (had) just paid (for the dress), and I got nervous.”

Jessie was having none of it and said: “I don’t even understand though, like, you went and bought tickets ON MY WEDDING DATE.”

“I’m not trying to be mean right now, I’m just angry before I get upset,” she said.

“I want you to be there next to me on my day and you’re not going to be there.”

Host Fifi Box jumped in and said: “This is now feeling quite personal for your friendship.

“I know, Olivia, you seemed quite buoyant before, thinking that this might play out better than it has.

“Olivia, we will try and help you and this friendship — can we hire a chopper (to get you to the wedding)?

“We are going to try and do whatever we can.”

Box’s helicopter reference appeared to relate to a situation almost a fortnight ago in which star cricketer David Warner arrived in a chopper at the SCG after attending his brother’s wedding in the NSW Hunter Valley.

The “mad dash” was the only way the 37-year-old could arrive in time for the sold-out T20 blockbuster of his Sydney Thunder team versus the rivals Sydney Sixers.

Box added that “the only thing I can think of is that you don’t go to Taylor Swift”.

Olivia continued crying and said: “It’s, like, once-in-a-lifetime, and I feel awful.”

Box finished by saying: “I hate to see this, and a lot of friendships end over weddings and I hate to see your friendship end over this.”
