ONE Championship’s wildest knockouts of 2023

ONE Championship’s biggest catch is the amount of finishes that feature in its fight shows, and the numbers stack up.

Statistically, the martial arts giant boasts around 70 percent of fights finishing inside the distance, in comparison with leading MMA organizations that hover around 40 percent.

As such, there will be numerous nominees when ONE announces its “knockout of the year” awards. With the 2023 event calendar now in the books, here are some of the very best knockouts of the past year that could top the list.

Stamp Fairtex vs Alyse Anderson

There is nothing worse than a shot to the liver.

Many martial arts participants know that, albeit it temporary, taking a strike to the fragile organ is one of the most excruciatingly painful ways to succumb to a fight.

That was the fate that befell Alyse Anderson at ONE Fight Night 10 in May, as Thai megastar and now-ONE women’s atomweight MMA world champion Stamp Fairtex sent the American crowd wild when she put the home fighter down with a perfectly placed kick to the liver.

Superbon Singha Mawynn vs Tayfun Ozcan

Superbon Singha Mawynn’s head kick is one of the most dangerous weapons in martial arts today.

The former ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion proved as much once again this past June when he dispatched Turkish striker Tayfun Ozcan in the second round of their contest.

Superbon throws the kick from an unusually close distance, which proved Ozcan’s undoing. As the pair disengaged from a punching exchange, the Thai star landed a pinpoint head kick from his lead leg, sending his foe crashing to the canvas.

Celest Hansen vs Kalaked Por Muangpetch

Australian Muay Thai star Celest Hansen made her ONE debut in style this year.

The Fairtex Training Center representative was at her marauding best when she faced off with rising Thai talent Kalaked Por Muangpetch.

The pressure began to tell in the third round as Hansen continued to pursue her opponent, who finally started to break.

Sensing her opportunity, the 29-year-old unloaded shots against the ropes and a series of uppercuts – reminiscent of Australian Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr. That was enough to seal an emotional victory.

Hansen was overcome after the fight was waved off, as the realization that she had achieved a major life goal dawned on the Aussie.

Jonathan Haggerty vs Nong-O Hama

British two-sport ONE world champion Jonathan Haggerty shocked the world at ONE Fight Night 9.

“The General” snatched the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title away from longtime champion Nong-O Hama in dramatic fashion at the April blockbuster.

Haggerty exploded out of the blocks from the opening bell, as the 26-year-old simply overwhelmed the Thai legend with a relentless power punching attack.

Nong-O tasted the canvas on three occasions, with the third sending him face down with little more than 20 seconds left in the round.

Gingsanglek Tor Laksong vs Chorfah Tor Sangtiennoi

If at first you don’t succeed, then try and try again – that was exactly what Gingsanglek Tor Laksong did at ONE Friday Fights 14 in April.

Faced with ONE veteran Chorfah Tor Sangtiennoi, the 22-year-old shocked his ONE main-roster opponent with a pair of crushing head kicks.

The southpaw wobbled Chorfah when he landed the first out of nowhere. Before his foe could recover, Gingsanglek unloaded a second to send him crashing to the canvas. The referee waved off the contest instantly.
