Remaining victims of Phillip Island drowning tragedy identified as Shivam Anand, Suhani Anand and Kriti Bedi

The three remaining victims of the Phillip Island drowning tragedy that claimed four lives on Wednesday have been identified.

Siblings Shivam Anand, 23, and Suhani Anand, 20, as well as their cousin Kriti Bedi, 20, were swimming at an unpatrolled area of Forrest Caves Beach in Newhaven on Wednesday when they got into trouble.

The group’s 43-year-old aunty Reema Sondhi, who has already been identified, was also in the water when the group got into difficulty.

Off-duty lifesavers surfing at the time rushed to help and performed CPR on the group until paramedics arrived.

Sondhi, Bedi and Shivam died at the scene, while Suhani died overnight in hospital.

Shivam was a registered nurse with a “heart of gold”, according to a fundraiser set up by two people close to the family of the victims.

“(He) saved many lives throughout his career but was unable to be saved when (he) needed (help) himself,” they wrote.

Suhani and Bedi were both nursing students.

“(They had) planned to stay home and focus on their studies, but life had other plans,” the organisers said.

Sondhi had recently travelled from India to Australia and had been staying with her nieces and nephew who all lived in Clyde.

The mother-of-two had been in Australia for only two weeks.

Money raised via the GoFundMe will be used to either transport the remains back to India or to help plan a ceremony in Australia, the organisers said.

“This loss leaves a void for the families that can never be fully filled,” they said.

“In this time of immense grief, we can come together, not just in mourning, but in a tide of compassion that lifts their families above the depths of despair.”

Experienced surfers and lifesavers said the victims were caught in a rip after a dramatic change in tide and stood little chance as they were dragged out to sea.

“The family was really upset. There seemed to be a group of about 10 people who would have come here for a really nice day,” Tzatzimakis told 7NEWS.

“Obviously it’s ended in tragedy.

“When we got here, the family and friends were here and they were understandably quite upset and crying and comforting each other.

“(It’s) just a horrible situation.”

Life Saving Victoria commander Kane Treloar said it had been almost 20 years since since such a tragic event had taken place in Victorian waters.
