“I grabbed hold of one of the younger sheep and it spun me around against a sheet of iron that sliced me straight through the stomach,” he told 7NEWS.

As Dalitz began bleeding heavily, he rang triple-0 and said he thought he was dying.

In a recording of the call, the emergency operator can be heard doing their best to keep Dalitz calm until help arrived.

“(Breathe) in through your nose and out through your mouth,” the operator says.

“I’m dying,” Dalitz replies.

‘‘Take it nice and slowly,” the operator says.

Dalitz later can be heard telling the operator he had used something he found in the cupboard to stem the bleeding — a quick-thinking action that paramedics say saved his life.

Once help arrived, Dalitz was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

He had lost a near-fatal amount of blood and needed several stitches for the big gash on the side of his stomach.

On Thursday, Dalitz reunited with the paramedics who helped keep him alive.

He said, without them, he wouldn’t have made it.

“Without these guys I wouldn’t be here, quite simple,” he said.

“They did an amazing job and (I’m) so lucky.”

Paramedic Daniel Kenny said it was amazing to see such a good outcome to what was a very serious accident.

“It’s wonderful to meet Trevor and his family and to know that we made a difference that day.”
