Struggling to afford your quarterly hair colour? Women are turning to $30 vegan supermarket dye

Visiting the hair salon every 10 to 12 weeks is one of my greatest splurges but is becoming harder to justify as the cost of living crisis worsens.

In the pursuit of rich blonde hair, I book in religiously, sit in the chair for upwards of four hours and watch as the hairdresser bleaches, tones and styles my hair to perfection.

The price at the end of the treatment stings every time.

So Aussie women are turning to a DIY method of bleaching and toning their hair to either draw out the length between salon visits or cut out the professional entirely.

They’re using Brite Hair to achieve glossy, bright blondes or balayage and the bottles are available at Coles, Woolworths and Kmart.

In one video, a young woman with grown out blonde hair seamlessly lifts her ends using a $10 toning product from the supermarket.

“We’re going to head into our local Woolworths and pick up some Brite Hair Toner,” she said.

“Whilst we’re in the middle of the festive season, and the cost of living crisis is hitting hard, this is the perfect way to get salon-quality results at a fraction of the cost.

“It’s a foolproof way to get that beautiful bright blonde without spending an arm and a leg at the salon.”

In another video, a young Australian woman with brunette hair uses $40 worth of Brite Hair products to create a lived-in balayage effect in her hair.

“This is my go-to affordable hair brand,” one customer replied to the video.

“I love this product so much,” said another.
