The latest Cadillac sports sedans we won’t see in Australia

Cadillac is coming to Australia, but the updated CT5-V models won’t be on the boat as the BMW 5 Series-sized sedan is only made in left-hand drive.

Revealed overnight, the facelifted CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing follow in the footsteps of their less powerful CT5 siblings, which were revised in September last year.

Like the other CT5 models, the CT5-V and Blackwing now sport a vertical stack of LED headlights, with driving lights that run both up and down, and left and right. Accompanying this is a wider grille, and redesigned front bumpers with a slightly more aggressive design.

Additionally there are three new paint options to choose from: Drift Metallic, Deep Space Metallic, and Typhoon Metallic.

Perhaps the more significant update is on the inside, where the CT5-V and Blackwing gain the dashboard that made its debut in lesser CT5 variants last year. The dash has been updated to accommodate a curved panel housing a 33-inch display for the infotainment touchscreen and digital instruments.

The overhauled infotainment setup includes a Performance app with real-time power, torque and boost displays, dyno-style graphs, and on-screen gauges for g-force, tyre temperature, and engine details.

There’s also a Performance Data Recorder app that can store and display lap times, sector analysis, track details, and display the friction circle, and throttle and brake position.

Under their bonnets, the CT5-V and Blackwing have carryover drivetrains. The range-topping CT5-V Blackwing is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 making 498kW and 893Nm. It drives the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

Step down to the regular CT5-V, and there’s a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet pumping out 268kW and 549Nm. It only comes with a 10-speed automatic, but buyers can select between rear- or all-wheel drive.

This is an uprated version of the twin-turbo V6 found in the regular CT5, where it produces 250kW and 549Nm.

Both the CT5-V and Blackwing come with Magnetic Ride Control, but only the latter is fitted with Brembo brakes as standard.

For highway driving, automatic versions of the CT5-V and Blackwing come with a three-year subscription to the Super Cruise feature, which allows for hands-free Level 3 autonomous driving on selected highways across North America.

Production of the revised CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing begins in the northern summer, so final pricing and specifications have yet to be confirmed.

Buoyed by sales in China, the CT5 overtook the Escalade as Cadillac’s most popular model globally in 2023.
