Woman arrested as man injured in suspicious house fire in Broadmeadows, Melbourne


A 61-year-old woman has been arrested after a man was injured while fleeing a suspicious fire in Melbourne’s north.

The 67-year-old man was inside the house on Ophir St, Broadmeadows, when the blaze broke out just after 2am on Wednesday.

He managed to flee from the burning property and was taken to hospital with minor burns.

Police allege the fire was suspiciously lit and arrested a 61-year-old woman, also from Broadmeadows, a short time later.

While it is not yet known where the woman was when the blaze erupted, she has been taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

She remains there under police guard.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, leaving the house with significant damage.
