Woman fighting for life, three others injured in Melbourne stabbing attacks


A woman is fighting for life and three others have been injured in a spate of stabbing attacks in Melbourne’s inner-city suburbs.

Police say a man stabbed four people in three random attacks over three hours on Saturday night, starting with a 24-year-old Melbourne man outside a King St burger store about 10pm.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

It’s alleged the attacker then stabbed a man and woman walking along Dandenong Rd in St Kilda East shortly before 11pm.

The 31-year-old St Kilda East woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The man, a 31-year-old from Glen Waverley, was also taken to hospital with a serious arm injury.

Finally, the man allegedly stabbed a 31-year-old man on Acland Street in St Kilda about 12.30am, leaving him with non-life-threatening leg injuries. The victim, an English national, was also taken to hospital.

A man who matched the description of the offender was spotted in South Yarra, sparking a foot chase on Powell St until he was arrested about 1.15am.

He remains in custody, assisting investigators with their inquiries.
