Driver charged over crash that killed woman and boy in Echuca, Victoria


A man has been charged over a crash that killed two people, including an 11-year-old boy, on a Victorian highway.

A car was travelling along the Murray Valley Hwy in Echuca at about 12.30pm on Sunday when it veered off the road and hit a tree near Mt Terrick Rd.

The car, which had three people inside, then caught fire.

A 26-year-old woman, who was a passenger inside the car, was killed instantly.

An 11-year-old boy was treated at the scene, but later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, has since been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

He has been bailed to appear at the Echuca Magistrates’ Court next Tuesday.
