Irish expat details her struggles on the unspoken rules of dating Aussie men: ‘I don’ get it’
An Irish expat living in Sydney has turned to the internet to ask advice on the unspoken dating rules in Australia.
Jadley shared a video highlighting her struggles with dating Aussie guys.

“Hi, can someone please explain to me how Australian dating rules work? Because I don’t f****** get it,” she said.
“I feel like if you say one wrong thing, you’re left on read. The number of dates that have been organised and then the guys just never text me again.”
She joked: “I just want a mullet boyfriend, is that too much to ask?”
The traveller explained that she had never experienced this with dating “anywhere else in the world.”
“Every woman I speak to has the exact same horror stories about Australian men — someone please elaborate,” she said.
Jadley’s video has been viewed almost 500,000 times — with many agreeing with her and sharing their terrible dating experiences in Australia.
‘Don’t bother’
“Dating in Australia is like walking into a red flagged carnival — don’t bother — I now own cats,” shared one person.
Another said, “Australian here, I don’t know either, hope that helped.”
A third added, “We are truly in the trenches here in Australia.”
Many people stitched Jadley’s video and agreed with her statement.
‘Low effort culture’
An Australian man, known as “Smooth Gutter” on social media, stitched Jadley’s video and titled it, “Australia is a low effort culture”.
In the video, which has racked up more than two million views, the Aussie explained that “one thing people need to understand about Australia is that it is a ‘low effort culture’.”
“If you want to take literally anything seriously and, in this example, your dating life, you are f*****,’” he said.
He added, “You don’t understand how bad it is until you’re here.”
