Matt Doran reveals his awkward proposal to Kendall Bora

Sunrise host Matt Doran has revealed he suffered a bad case of nerves when he proposed to his now-wife, Kendall Bora.

Matt recounted his engagement on Thursday while interviewing Nitish Gupta — the cricket fan who became a viral sensation when he proposed to his girlfriend at the Big Bash League match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Seven’s veteran cricket commentator Jason Richardson was interviewing the couple — who support rival Melbourne teams — in the crowd when Nitish suddenly dropped to one knee and popped the question to girlfriend Shree.

The proposal — and Shree’s nodded acceptance of it — was broadcast live on Seven.

Asking Nitish about the moment, Matt admitted he struggled to get down on bended knee when he popped the question on New Year’s Eve 2020.

“I could barely speak during my proposal,” Matt admitted.

“I don’t know how you managed to make this all work.”

As Matt joked he had “botched” the romantic moment, he was reassured by co-host Monique Wright who reminded him Kendall “said yes”.

Matt married TV producer Kendall in December 2021 — with the couple only recently celebrating their second wedding anniversary.

Matt previously gave some insight into the proposal while speaking on Weekend Sunrise in January 2021.

“I’m feeling very relieved after a lot of stress in the lead-up,” he told viewers at the time.

“I didn’t sleep for a few days prior because I kept bungling the plans.

“I’ve now been told I’ll have nothing to do with the wedding plans because I can’t even organise the proposal very well!”.

The couple tied the knot in an elegant waterfront ceremony at Berowra Waters, with Matt sharing a heartfelt message via Instagram after the wedding.

“The best day of my life with my magnificent wife,” he wrote.
