Sunrise’s Matt Doran ribs co-host Monique Wright over on-air animal blunder: ‘It’s not a wombat’
Sunrise co-hosts Matt Doran and Monique Wright are known to be great friends.
And Matt couldn’t help but take a playful dig at Monique on Wednesday when she incorrectly identified a Tasmanian devil as a wombat.

Matt and Mon crossed live from Brekky Central to weatherman James Tobin, who was nursing a Tasmanian devil, at Symbio Wildlife Park.
Monique cooed over the furry animal — but called it a “wombat”.
Matt didn’t let his co-presenter get away with a slip of the tongue.
“Mon, just a point of clarity,” he began.
“Very rarely do I pull you up on anything but a wombat — a short-legged muscular marsupial, native to Australia, about 1m in length, small, stubby tail and weighs between 20kg-25kg.
“Remarkably different, some would say, from what you just saw there.”
Monique defended the innocent blunder, saying the two animals were the same colour — which spurred Matt on even more.

“You had two options, you could apologise or dig in — you have gone the dig in,” Matt said.
Mon defended herself, saying James swapped a wombat for a Tasmanian devil just moments earlier.
Matt playfully joked Mon was “lying to viewers” to cover up for the mistake.
“Well, well, well — Monique you’re lying to your viewers,” Matt said jokingly.
“You’re looking down the barrel of the camera and lying outright to the viewer.”
Matt revisited the moment during the next cross, when James also got in on the joke.
“Mon, check these out. We’ve got kookaburras — underwater kookaburras,” he said, pointing to penguins.
“Have you seen these before? Look at them — they are magnificent.”
Mon called her mistake “a very blonde moment” but took the jokes in her stride.
Monique later revealed Matt had been passing photos of wombats to her in the break.
“Nothing like having a bestie like Matt,” she said.
