Several fireworks go off before the iron cage breaks and falls onto its side mid-air, dropping the two men several metres below.

The pair were taken to hospital where Shah, 56, later died.

Datla remains in a life-threatening condition.

An inspector from a local police department told the Times of India that one of the two wires attached to the cage had snapped.

“Both plunged more than 15 feet (4.5m) and landed on the concrete dais,” D Karunakar Reddy said.

“This caused multiple injuries.

“At the time of the accident, music was being played and Shah and Raju were waving to their staff while being lowered.”
