Worker hospitalised after alleged stabbing at Blacktown supermarket


A supermarket worker has allegedly been stabbed and another punched in the face in an attack at a store in Western Sydney.

The 47-year-old man was allegedly stabbed in his side and chest when he and a co-worker attempted to stop two people suspected of shoplifting on Sunday afternoon, NSW Police allege.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Emergency services were called to the supermarket on Garfield Rd, Blacktown about 4.15pm Sunday and quickly arrested a 31-year-old man and 21-year-old woman.

They were taken to Riverstone Police Station where the man was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while the woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and larceny.

The pair has been refused police bail overnight to face Blacktown Local Court on Monday.

A knife was seized at the scene and has been sent for forensic examination.
