Police shoot and kill dog that attacked officer, arrested man in Perth


A dog has been shot and killed by police after it attacked a man and an officer during a dramatic arrest in Perth’s northeast on Tuesday.

Mirrabooka detectives were at a home on Stratton Blvd in Stratton about 9.30am and were in the process of taking a man into custody when the incident unfolded.

“While at the residence, a dog owned by another person approached and attacked the arrested suspect and a female police officer,” authorities said.

Police said a male officer had no choice but to kill the animal “to prevent further injury” to those at the scene.

The female officer sustained dog bite injuries to both legs and one of her hands, while the animal also left the arrested man, who is aged in his 30s, with an injured leg.

They were both were taken to St John of God Midland by ambulance.

An investigation has been launched and inquiries are ongoing.

The incident comes less than four months after police were forced to shoot and kill one of two pet rottweilers as they attacked their owner in Success, in Perth’s south.
